Mt Victoria.
Black Rider
Our fun-filled afternoon starts with a drive up to the Mt Victoria trees to see where filming for the LOTR trilogy began.

Many famous Lord of the Rings scenes were filmed here including the 'Outer Shire', 'Hobbiton Woods', 'Dunharrow Plateau' and 'Weathertop'.

We'll show you the scenes then provide props for those wanting to be a hobbit for a picture.  Lie in Frodo's tree, hide from the black rider...

Studios.
From the 'Hobbiton Woods', we continue down towards Evans Bay and into Miramar,
home to the award-winning studios.

We'll see the Stone Street Studios, Park Road Post, Motion Capture Studios and Camperdown Studios (this is where the famous Weta Workshop is situated).

You'll learn about what's happening inside and hear about the other famous movies which had local input including Indiana Jones, King Kong, Narnia, Legend of Zorro, Master & Commander, i-Robot, Hellboy, Last Samurai ....

We visit the NEW WETA CAVE.  Learn all about the world famous special fx company, Weta Workshop.  Watch the video presentation, have your picture with Lurtz and Gollum, purchase a souvenir or one of their popular collectibles.
Please note, unless otherwise stated, entry into the studios is prohibited to all general public (for secrecy reasons).

From the Weta Cave, we travel to Seatoun to see the suburb where the set of the village of 'Bree' was constructed for the Lord of the Rings.

Continuing around the bays, you'll learn about the resident Little Blue Penguins and the sandstone on the seashore which inspired the design of 'Shelobs Lair' from Lord of the Rings and 'Skull Island' from King Kong.

We eventually reach Lyall Bay which is where a number of the 'Rings actors learnt to surf.  Hear about the injury that 'Aragorn' actor Viggo Mortensen suffered while surfing here.

City Centre.
It's then over to Evans Bay and around the golden sands of Oriental Bay beach to the city centre.

Entering the city, we pass the famous Embassy Theatre.  This is where the big world premiere of 'The Return of the King' was held.  You'll have a glimpse of the Weta Workshop designed and built "Screen Production Industry" tribute sculpture in Courtenay Place too.

Please Note:  It is recommended passengers wear good walking shoes and have a reasonable level of fitness for our walks over the steep and sometimes slippery terrain.

Bringing a bottle of drinking water is also a good idea.
