Legolas'New York', 'Helms Deep', 'Minas Tirith'.

Our excursion starts with a drive out of Wellington City and along the harbour edge to the Hutt Valley.  Petone at the foot of the Valley is where the first European settlers landed when they came to this part of New Zealand in 1839.  The nearby Seaview industrial park is also where the massive New York set was created for Peter Jackson's 'King Kong' movie.

We'll travel through the Valley until we reach the Dry Creek Quarry.  This is where the sets of 'Helms Deep' and 'Minas Tirith' were built.  You'll learn how hard the Helms Deep filming was for everyone and why they all earned their "I Survived Helms Deep" t-shirts.

Harcourt Park.
Following the Hutt River (where some small 'River Anduin' scenes were shot for LOTR), we'll shortly arrive at Harcourt Park.  Here, your guide will take you through Isengard to show where Gandalf rode to meet with Saruman at the Tower of Orthanc.

You'll also get an understanding of how the "Hinged Trees of Isengard" scene was filmed here.

'Aragorn Washed Ashore'.
A short drive will take us past where Gollum was following the Fellowship down the River Anduin before we arrive where the injured Aragorn was saved by his horse 'Brego'.

Kaitoke Regional Park.
LunchWe'll continue following the Hutt River north
, shortly arriving at Kaitoke, famously known now for being where the 'Rivendell' set was built.  This is your chance to understand how the Fellowship of the Ring was formed and have your picture taken at the 'Legolas Tree'.

After enjoying lunch down by the river, there's time to enjoy  a walk across the swing bridge over the Hutt River.

'Departure of Boromir', 'Wetset', 'Court of the Kings' set.*

From Rivendell, we travel about 5 minutes south to another part of the Hutt River where they did a scene connected to the Departure of Boromir.  We'll see where 'Faramir' explained to 'Frodo' and 'Sam' how he found his brother in the boat.

Continuing, we then briefly stop at the Lower Hutt industrial park called Wingate where the massive Wetset and Court of the Kings sets were created.  This is where famous scenes including 'Gates of Moria', 'Dead Marshes', 'Flooded Isengard', 'Osgiliath' and Court of the Kings were filmed.

*Note:  This is dependant on time availability on the day.  Sometimes people enjoy themselves so much in Rivendell, they choose to bypass these areas.

Arriving back in Wellington, your guide will give you some options of where to be dropped off in the city.  You may choose to spend the afternoon at Te Papa Museum.  Those lucky enough to be continuing with our Wellington Movie Tour simply stay on board.

Please Note:  This tour involves walks of up to 15 minutes duration at a time to view filming locations.
